about

Unprovenienced Ortices Phase (500 BC-AD 500) double aerophone housed at the Art & History Museum (AHM), Brussels, since July 1939. It was hypothetically manufactured in the border zone between the present-day states of Colima and Jalisco (West Mexico). This flute was formerly part of the Germaine Wenziner private collection.

It is worth mentioning that the highest-pitched tones are generated by the left tube, not by the right one, a rather unusual organological feature in this region.

Overall dimensions (height x width x depth): 10.17 x 3.72 x 1.90 (cm).
